Oskar Schindler

Question

I am reading Schindler's List and I have a couple of questions about the novel if you could please answer them for me it would be of great help.

1.) at the end of the novel the author states that there is a press photograph of Shindler's funeral. do you know where i could access it?

2.) Why is Oskar Shindler not credited as much for saving the jew'slives during the holocaust. i can open a website about the holocaust, and there's hardly, if any information or mention of his name, on theweb site. if you ask me, the guy was pretty courageous for doing what hedid for the jews being a part of the nazi party.

i appreciate your time and effort you spent on studying the holocaust and for taking the time to read the e-mail.

Harry W. Mazal OBE answers:

Thank you for your recent note.

I am one of the persons in the Holocaust History Project who responds to questions from our readers. You might get other responses from my colleagues.

I regret that I have not find a picture of Oskar Schindler's funeral.

2) There is a world of information about Oskar Schindler on the web. There is also more than ample credit and praise for what he did to save the lives of the Jews (note that "Jew" is capitalized). You might want to visit the following excellent web-sites dedicated to that courageous man:

  • http://www.yad-vashem.org.il/yadvashem/visit/trees/schindler.html (shows a picture of the tree in Jerusalem honoring him as a "Righteous Gentile.")

  • http://www.tulane.edu/~so-inst/slindex.html (a vast web-site dedicated to Schindler)

  • http://www.coseti.org/45th_12.htm (a picture of his grave. each stone on the tombstone represents a recent visitor)

  • http://www.afhu.org/news/99afhupr/101899.htm (his memory lives on)

(There are several hundred other sites which honor Schindler's memory)

    Yours sincerely,
